Fostering materially and spiritually prosperous communities
Kia hihiri ake ai te mauri o te wairua me te matū o ngā ringaringa i roto i te puna o te hāpori
Our Aims
Communities are in need of intellectual and economic development pursued in combination with efforts to foster qualities of the human spirit such as justice, truthfulness, compassion and humility. In short, true prosperity entails both material and spiritual progress. Every member of the human family can not only benefit from but also contribute to this progress.
Prosperity Foundation is a charity committed to building capacity within populations to take charge of their own social, economic and spiritual development. Prosperity Foundation collaborates with others in raising human resources for the delivery of a range of programmes which align with its charitable purpose.
In seeking to achieve its aims, Prosperity Foundation strives to:
- Build capacity in individuals, institutions and communities as inseparable protagonists in the construction of a better world
- Promote processes of transformation simultaneously within human thought and behaviour as well as in the structures and policies of society
- Draw on both science and religion as twin complementary systems of knowledge
- Promote the generation and application of knowledge as the process most central to social progress, rather than the delivery of finance, goods or services alone
- Approach its work in a humble posture of learning in action, and to pursue truth in a spirit of consultation
- Apply to its work the principles of the equality of women and men, the oneness of the human family and the equality of all peoples, races and ethnicities, the essential nobility of human beings, justice, freedom from prejudices of all kinds, and the independent investigation of truth
Our story
In 2013, a small group in Manurewa, South Auckland, began exploring the Junior Youth Spiritual Empowerment Programme, fostering a learning-based approach of action, reflection, consultation, and study. Over time, they developed conversations and systems of training and support that enabled youth to mentor their younger peers, facilitate the curriculum, and engage in complementary activities. By 2015, 15 rangatahi were mentoring 10 junior youth groups, involving 90 participants, with other Auckland suburbs also adopting the programme.
As the initiative expanded—especially through school collaborations—formal structures became necessary. Prosperity Foundation was registered as a charitable trust in 2019 and gained charity status in 2020.
Since its inception, Prosperity Foundation has explored key questions: What realities and decisions shape youth development? What do they need to take charge of their learning and lead lives of service? What content helps them fulfill their potential? What existing opportunities support their spiritual and intellectual growth, and how can they best access them?
In addressing these questions, Prosperity Foundation has organized learning in the conceptualization, development and delivery of a series of programmes for distinct age groups, which, in combination, accompany and empower young people from the age of eleven through to their thirties.
